Prince Charles Edmonton Houses & Homes
Prince Charles is north of Westmount and 118 ave in west-central Edmonton between Inglewood, Sherbrooke, and the new upcoming Blatchford community near Kingsway Garden Mall and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. Prince Charles Real Estate History
Prince Charles is west of the new Blatchford development in north-central Edmonton. This area was originally owned by N. McCauley and A. Wilson, although the Wilson holding later became part of the Hagmann Estate. It was first subdivided in 1905 and was annexed to our city in 1910. Prince Charles, like Inglewood, was spurred by the extension of the electric streetcar line. Over time, Prince Charles real estate development was a low-density residential area with war-time houses. The final surge of construction occurred during the late 1940s and 1950s when the demand for residential lots finally caught up to the supply.
The residential housing stock in Prince Charles is varied and spans approximately one hundred years of development. Homes built before World War II sit next to new homes built in the 2000s. Most residential units in the neighbourhood are single-detached dwellings, but there are some semi-detached homes and low rise apartment units located throughout the neighbourhood. This part of west-central Edmonton was originally known as North Inglewood. In 1953 the existing elementary school was renamed in honour of His Royal Highness Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales.
