Dovercourt Edmonton Houses & Homes
Dovercourt, northwest of Westmount in west-central Edmonton is a completely residential community with the exception of a few churches including New Life Pentecostal Church. The majority of real estate development in Dovercourt occurred during the mid-1950s with a mix of bungalows and character houses, and still offers the nostalgic feeling of living in one of Edmonton's safest communities. Dovercourt was likely named after Dovercourt Village in Essex, England. Dovercourt Real Estate History
Dovercourt lies between 118 Avenue, 124 Avenue and east of 142 Street to St. Albert Trail. This west-central part of the city was annexed in 1913 but remained practically undeveloped until after WWII. In the 1950s, Dovercourt was replotted under the direction of the first town planner, Noel Dant. The Dovercourt design concept is based on a curvilinear street pattern with limited access points, landscaping, and variable housing setbacks to discourage through traffic and improve aesthetics.
The walkways and interior streets focus on greenspace sites. The vast majority of homes for sale in Dovercourt were built in the late 1940s to 1960, and the dominant structure type is the detached house. A variety of commercial services are also nearby for residents along 118th Avenue and Groat Road including Westmount. The Dovercourt name was used as early as 1910, even though it remained undeveloped until 40 years later. The name is likely a reference to Dovercourt Village in Essex, England.
