The majority of  homes are newer, middle to upper-scale detached Blackmud Creek houses. One of the best things about living in this part of the Heritage Valley is the convenient access to the walking trails and community ravine along Blackmore Way, Bowman, and Bowness Wynd SW. Blackmud Creek is a 9.3 kilometer trail and is primarily used for walking, running, and nature trips. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on a leash.

Blackmud Creek is a newer community south of Ellerslie Road close to Rutherford in the Heritage Valley district. It was named after the Blackmud Creek which flows around the south and east sides of the neighbourhood and takes advantage of the natural amenities in the area. Single-family houses account for nearly 90% of all Blackmud Creek homes. There are a few townhouses in Blackmud Creek located closer to Rutherford.
