Bonnie Doon is a historic part of Edmonton's history located between Idylwylde and Strathearn. In 1913, an extension of a streetcar line made real estate development in Bonnie Doon more attractive. This south Edmonton community takes its name from the Scottish for pleasant, rolling countryside, and was named in 1912 after Canadian-born Premier Alexander Cameron Rutherford, who was of Scottish descent and owned a portion of the land east of Mill Creek. Early residents took advantage of the river valley views by constructing their houses next to the Mill Creek Ravine and overlooking the North Saskatchewan River.
