Originally, this part of central southwest Edmonton was at the heart of our municipality near the University of Alberta. Homeowners have long been drawn to Strathcona for various reasons including the old genuine character houses. It is a happening area with busy pubs and dance clubs, and restaurants along Whyte Avenue. It’s also a theatre hotspot, home to the offbeat Varscona Theatre, Strathcona-based Walterdale Playhouse, and major annual festivals.

Strathcona is a large neighbourhood which is centrally located in southwest Edmonton. It is densely populated with several high-rises and is a popular place to live for those young at heart. Most of the houses for sale in Strathcona will be constructed during the 1970s and 1980s. A large portion of these dwellings face the river valley along Saskatchewan Drive. It takes its name from the town of Strathcona which existed here and in surrounding neighbourhoods before it was amalgamated with Edmonton in 1912. The Mill Creek Ravine forms part of the Strathcona boundary to the east and is steps away from favorite cafes and the night life on Whyte Avenue. Houses in Strathcona are overwhelmingly occupied by renters – about 70% of homes.
