Mill Creek Communities
The Mill Creek area is located in the central portion of south Edmonton near the University of Alberta and Saskatchewan Drive and Waterdale Hill, bordered by Whyte Avenue Calgary Trail and Argyll Road. In the Mill Creek district, there are ample retail services, local shops, large retailers, and restaurants in the Strathcona Junction. It is best known for the art performers and summer festivals.
Argyll is south of Ritchie next to Cornet industrial. Due to the location, lot sizes and proximity to the downtown core, Argyll house prices are higher than the average. It is a predominantly single-family residential area with the vast majority of houses built after World War II between 1946 and 1960.
Avonmore is an irregular quadrilateral-shaped community known for the popular Mill Creek ravine in the south bounded by 75 Street, Argyll Road, and the Mill Creek Ravine. Avonmore is named after Algernon William Yelverton, Viscount Avonmore, an Irish priest and adventurer who stopped in Edmonton en route to an 1887 gold rush expedition in the Klondike.
Hazeldean, south of Ritchie had remained undeveloped until the 1950s when nearly 80 percent of the houses were constructed with the dominant structure type being the bungalow-style house with meticulously landscaped backyards.
