Kensington Houses, Homes & Real Estate

Kensington is a mature district south of Castle Downs, north of Calder, adjacent to the luxury community of Griesbach in northwest Edmonton, Alberta. It was annexed to the city in 1913 during a real estate boom but most developments didn't occur until the 1950s. Most of the Kensington homes for sale are detached houses with double detached garages making this the dominant real estate. Kensington Communities

Athlone is a mature community near Kensington that was a part of a land parcel north of the Canadian National Rail Line. Every year, the Athlone Community League hosts a Summer Splash day for the community with a fun BBQ, good times with friends and neighbors, and of course water fun with a down a split and slide, water balloon fights, and the water spray park. The majority of Athlone-Kensington real estate listings for sale will be detached bungalows or half duplexes.


Calder's residential real estate development in Calder is changing from the old wartime houses to new half duplexes. Houses here extend a period of time reflected in the age of their structures. Some of the Calder houses pre-date to 1905-1910. Since the early 1900's houses have been built in Calder throughout every decade, mainly due to the quick downtown proximity and the large lots.


Lauderdale is a mature Kensington community with a mix of residential real estate including detached houses, duplexes, and row houses south of the luxury area of Griesbach. Although it has been within city limits since 1913, it did not experience widespread real estate development until the late fifties and early sixties. This part of Kensington is best known for the Grand Trunk Fitness Leisure Centre and off-leash dog site.


Wellington is a highly sought-after community located in northwest Edmonton. Every property will be a little different, from time eras to styles to building materials. Like other Kensington neighborhoods, it was designed based on a central park site that anchors the community together. The majority of Wellington Edmonton homes for sale are built in the late 1950s and range from basement-less bungalow-style houses to full basements usually between 900 - 1200 square feet above grade.

Relocating to Kensington

Located in central northwest Edmonton, the Kensington area is bordered by St. Albert trail, 137 Avenue, 97 Street, and north of the Yellowhead. It is ten minutes to the downtown core.


Both the off-leash dog park and Grand Trunk Fitness Leisure Centre are located in the Lauderdale community. Northgate and Pembina shopping districts are at the edges of the Kensington District. This area offers homeowners large mature backyards.


Houses for sale in the Kensington area range dramatically from one to another. Some properties are basementless war-time bungalows to brand-new modern stand-alone properties. House prices here vary on location, maintenance, and age. The average price for a Kensington area house is about $300,000. New builds will cost about $400,000.
