Gibbons: Alberta Properties north of Edmonton
Gibbons is a popular military town in central Alberta within 15 minutes of CFB Garrison. It is located on Highway 28A, 37 km northeast of Edmonton. It was named after William Gibbons who settled here and created the merge of two smaller communities - Astleyville and Battenburg. This friendly town has a population of about 3200 with approximately 1250 private dwellings, mainly detached houses. As part of the Sturgeon School Division, Gibbons consists of two elementary, and a Junior High school. It offers a few corner stores, gas station and restaurants. All major shopping and amenities can be done within a short commute to Fort Saskatchewan, St Albert or North Edmonton.
Recently, Gibbons has become a very active sports-focused community orientated to the younger generations, with several adult options available also. The town features an arena which is home to a number of ice hockey teams and leagues in the winter. In partnership with the community of Bon Accord, Alberta, the CNN Spurs minor hockey program offers teams from initiation to midget level, as well as a female program and several other hockey leagues. Adjoining the arena is the Gibbons Curling Club and a recently renovated lounge, popular with property owners and military members, especially in the winter months. The facility also hosts the annual Saville Country Classic Junior Bonspiel and minor baseball, lacrosse and soccer teams with annual tournaments offered in the spring and summer.
